Program Development Plan

The overall Program Development Plan (2015- 2020) to support K-12 students who gain a real passion for the game, but don’t the means to take their chess skills development to next levels:

Participation Goals include:

  • Expand Boys & Girls Club Program to multiple days during the week.
  • Assure training pipeline for more adult chess program mentors / coaches to expand current programs and plan for inclusion of new program sites (aka strengthening those community partners who currently help by providing volunteers in the various Playing ACES CHESS sites.

Program Support Goals include:

Immediate Priority (Secure the below by 31 October 2016)

Identify 2-3 local individuals or companies to support purchase of chess clocks (emphasis) and sets (actually replacement pieces and some extra sets) to host rated local chess events.

Identify 2-3 local individuals or companies who will sponsor the 20 July 2016 (delayed to 07 Nov 2016) International Chess Day Celebration at Highlands (President Monroe’s Estate).

Identify 3-5 local individuals or companies who want to be a monthly local rated chess event sponsors for the remainder of 2016/2017 SY. Expenses will also include some venue rental fees.

Next Priority (Secure the below by 31 Jan 2017)

Identify 4-5 local individuals or companies who want to collaboratively support a select group of K-12 students to attend March 2017 VSCA Virginia State K-12 Scholastic and Collegiate Chess Championship scheduled for Norfolk, Va. including transportation, lodging, food and event fees.

Identify 2-3 local individuals or companies who will sponsor the 20 July 2017 International Chess Day Celebration at Highlands (President Monroe’s Estate).

Participation Goals include:

  • Expand Boys & Girls Club Program to multiple days during the week
  • Expand Community of Promise Program to multiple days during the week
  • Expand into other community-base K-12 servicing venues

Program Support Goals include:

Identify 4-5 local individuals or companies who want to collaboratively support a select group of K-12 students to attend March 2018 VSCA Virginia State K-12 Scholastic and Collegiate Chess Championship scheduled for Richmond, Va. including transportation, lodging, food and event fees.

Identify 5-8 local individuals or companies who want to collaboratively support a select group of K-12 students to attend Winter Nationals in Dec 2017 including transportation, lodging, food and event fees.

Identify 2-3 local individuals or companies who will sponsor the 20 July 2018 International Chess Day Celebration at Highlands (President Monroe’s Estate).

Identify 12 local individuals or companies who want to be a monthly local rated chess event sponsors for the 2017/2018 SY.

Secure the above by 30 June 2017.

Secure the above by 30 June 2018.

Participation Goals:

  • Have some 2,000+ area students actively engaged in weekly K-12 chess programs across multiple venues.
  • Have 4,000+ area student actively engage in weekly online  (aka virtual) K-12 chess events (both rated and unrated)
  • Have at least 12-24 K-12 student players with USCF chess ratings of 1800 or better.
  • Have Playing ACES CHESS programs in surrounding counties that are chess program deserts

Program Support Goals include:

Identify 5 local individuals or companies who want to collaboratively sponsor trophies & prizes for the March 2020 VSCA Virginia State K-12 Scholastic and Collegiate Chess Championship that will once again be hosted in Charlottesville, Va.

Identify 5- 8 local individuals or companies who want to collaboratively support a select group of K-12 students to attend Winter Nationals in Dec 2019 including transportation, lodging, food and event fees.

Identify 2-3 local individuals or companies who will sponsor the 20 July 2020 International Chess Day Celebration at Highlands (President Monroe’s Estate).

Identify 12 local individuals or companies who want to be a monthly event sponsor.

Secure the above by 30 June 2019.

Bottom line, Playing ACES CHESS wants to achieve funding transparency in order to support our emerging K-12 student chess community.  The Charlottesville/Albemarle Community can play a major role in making this dream of K-12 programs sustainability a reality.  Please share this link with those you know who are willing to reach out to support the aforementioned chess development program and support goals.
