Board of Advisors

Playing ACES CHESS.  These will be the front-line faces advocating for K-12 Chess programs instructional development and event support (e.g. tournaments, matches, etc).  Without these wonderful people, Playing ACES CHESS wouldn’t be the community resource it wants to become!

As a representative of the Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) your advocacy will be shared in collaboration with other K-12 chess program advocates. You don’t to know how to play chess, but that always helps. If you accept an initial ONE year term (31 Jul – 01 Aug Annually) you will receive the following Playing ACES CHESS logo embossed items as thank for your service: Coffee Mug, mouse pad, t-shirt at the end of your term.

Your goals:

  • Help promote the importance of K-12 chess using the resources of the this website to the ACPS Community (Teachers, Parents & Administrators)
  • Help link Playing ACES CHESS to funding opportunities to assure sustainability
  • Help with Playing ACES CHESS rated or unrated chess events as you are able

Meeting Obligations:

  • As a group we will meet together annually in April after the Virginia State K-12 Scholastic Chess Championship to address various issues. The meeting will involve food as it will very much be a working meeting. We are hoping to use the Carver Rec Center meeting room for everyone’s convenience.
  • The remainder of communications will be via email, Skype or Google Hangouts from me as FYI or seeking guidance; or, separate coffee or lunch meetings focused on ACPS as you deem important.

The BOA works closely with the Founder of Playing ACES CHESS to address all current and future program and event needs and to address other issues of a non-fiduciary nature. The fiduciary issues are addressed by Board of Directors as oversight to Playing ACES CHESS.  They also engage with the leadership of the Student Chess Leadership Council (SCLC) to develop an annual K-12 chess events calendar.  They also listen to ideas form the students and provide the forum to meet the stated needs of these students to have enhanced chess skills development and competitive opportunities.

Special Note: This Board of Advisers will carry the additional duty of helping to promote the March 2020 Virginia Scholastic Chess Associations (VSCA) Virginia K-12 Scholastic and Collegiate Chess Championship that will be held in Charlottesville as it is every five years.

Bottom line, Playing ACES CHESS wants the community to be involved in its Strategy Development Plan. Program development transparency is paramount to success as we support area K-12 student chess players and their families along their journey to chess excellence.
